The Impact of a Fluffy Companion on Your Child’s Reading

May 01
If your child struggles with anxiety about reading aloud or just needs motivation to practice reading, you should check out the R.E.A.D program or Reading Education Assistance Dogs.  I am not only recommending this as my father participated in this program in Florida with his Shih Tzu, but also because reading to a dog can provide a child with practice reading aloud at their own pace to someone who won’t laugh or judge. Thus, reading to a pet therapy dog can increase relaxation and self esteem, but also improve vocabulary, increase comprehension and fluency.  The R.E.A.D.  program uses pet therapy trained dogs as well as trained facilitators. The dogs are trained and tested for health, safety, appropriate skills and temperament.
