Kristen is very excited to be a part of the Beach Cities Tutoring team. She has over 10 years of experience working with children as a teacher, after school counselor, and tutor. She specializes in tutoring English (including essay writing), French, and History/Social Studies, but loves working with elementary and middle school students in all subjects. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing, with a Minor in French, from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2013 and her Master of Arts in International Affairs from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in 2019. She is also a certified substitute teacher for LAUSD. After receiving her BA, Kristen taught English abroad in France with the French Ministry of Education’s TAPIF program, helping students to improve their reading, writing, and speaking ability. As a graduate student, she was part of the Tufts Literacy Corps and tutored students ages 5-15 in all subjects, as well as taught an all-ages poetry workshop to students at a local community center. Kristen is always looking for new ways to engage students’ creative minds. It is her mission to ensure that her students feel empowered to lead in their own learning and find what sparks their curiosity.

Melissa graduated from the University of Florida with a BS in Journalism and Communications and also has a Master’s in Secondary Education from Nova Southeastern University. Melissa has been an educator for almost 13 years in a variety of positions from teaching K-12 courses to a Science curriculum coach for a K-5 school. Certifications in Florida: Elementary Education, Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum, English for Speakers of other Languages English 5-9 and she holds a Gifted Endorsement in Florida. In California, Melissa has a Multiple Credential and a single Subject Credential in English. Over the years she has taught Middle School Science, 1st-5th grade, World History, Language Arts Spanish 1 and 2 and AP Psychology. Melissa also trains teachers as a Professional Learning Specialist for Amplify, an online platform for Reading and Science curriculum. In addition, to teaching full time, Melissa has always had clients she tutors and was also a youth advisor for a religious organization for several years. She looks forward to taking on Distance Learning for students and families to help make it as meaningful and as valuable as it can be for all.
Ilona is an experienced teacher with 20 plus year teaching students of all ages. Her major in college was Political Science with a minor in Biology. She too likes to learn, and has continued to take courses to improve her knowledge in biology, reading, writing, math, science, and social science. She is a Graduate of Cal. State University of Dominguez Hills with a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. She has worked for the Wiseburn School District in Hawthorne as a first-grade teacher, reading and math intervention teacher, as well a substitute. She has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to websites that help younger learners. She has a great sense of humor and teaches with patience and common sense.
Amanda received her BA and Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential from California State University Dominguez Hills. She completed her student teaching in the Redondo Beach Unified School District in 2019 and has since subbed and worked as an Instructional Aide at the elementary level in the district. Before becoming an elementary teacher Amanda was a preschool teacher for over ten years. Through her schooling and experiences Amanda has extensive practice with the elementary curriculums used in the South Bay as well as with modern teaching strategies. She is trained in Eureka math and implements the Common Core Standards. Amanda believes in incorporating multiple learning modalities and hands-on aspects into her lessons and enjoys cultivating relationships with each student in her class. Amanda has two children in the Redondo Beach school district and spends time volunteering in their classrooms and supporting programs including Hands On Art, Live Well, and gardening. Amanda is excited to share her love of learning with her students.
