As a student, I was always an overachiever and strong believer in education. Thus, I eventually became a teacher, but as I have grown and matured and met many successful entrepreneurs, I realized that many of them did not earn very good grades in school and some did not go to or complete college.
Although I absolutely see the benefit of education in that it helps one to be well-rounded and learn critical thinking skills that will help them to problem solve as adults, after reading Why A Students Work for C Student, by Robert Kiyosaki, I agree that teachers as well as parents need to play a bigger role in financial education, that is teaching students about budgeting, investing, creating businesses, different types of income, etc. Kiyosaki advocates that in the future children will not be able to depend on social security and need to plan for their own future. ?They will need to be able to adapt to the changing world of the Information Age.
I enjoyed this book for many reasons. First, it calls on parents to educate their children about finances. Second, it recognizes the talents of students that may not be earning all A?s and may struggle in traditional schools. Finally, it acknowledges that schools should adjust their curriculum to benefit students within our current economic conditions. Although I do not agree with everything in the book, I do think it has some valuable points and would recommend it.
